Frequently asked questions

What do I need to do to prepare for the lesson?

Absolutely nothing! Rory will bring all the necessary materials for the lesson. The only thing you need to provide is a location with table and chairs (home, office, community center or country clubs are all great options).

what is your cancellation policy?

Due to demand and excessive last minute cancellations, we must enforce a 24 hour cancellation policy. 50% of the total lesson fee is due if you cancel within 24 hours of your scheduled lesson. If you cancel within 12 hours of your scheduled lesson, 100% of the lesson fee is due.

What methods of payment do you accept?

Cash, check, Venmo (@rory-bellow) or Zelle (rorybellow@gmail.com) are all accepted methods of payment. Payment is due the day before the scheduled lesson.

May i have less than 4 people at a lesson?

The minimum for lessons (except for a private lesson) is 4 people. This is the number of participants that works best for teaching and playing the game. If you have less than 4 people, we can definitely still learn and play, but you will be responsible for the minimum cost of 4 people.

What if someone cannot attend at the last minute?

No problem…I understand life happens! The minimum number of people required for a lesson is 4 people. If someone cannot come, payment is still owed for a minimum of 4 people.

How many people is optimal for a lesson?

The optimal number of people totally depends on the type of lesson.

  • For beginner lessons, I advise not exceeding 8 people. 4 people is optimal for learning.

  • If the group is mixed (some beginners and some experienced), I advise not exceeding 8 people.

  • If the group is composed of experienced players looking to improve their knowledge of the game…any number of participants works well!

  • All this being said, I am more than happy to work with groups of any size. Through my teaching experience, I have learned some tips and tricks to best facilitate a large group of beginners. Contact Me and let’s discuss how to best make your group size work best!

Do you facilitate large parties, events or Mahjong tournaments?

Yes!!! I love parties! Each event is different and best discussed via phone. From experience, I have some great tips and tricks for making sure a party or tournament is set up to succeed. Give me a call and we can chat through all the options. FYI: when the party exceeds 20 people, the price per person decreases. Email me and let’s find a time to talk!
